Kornelija Ninowa ( Bulgarian Корнелиа Нинова ; born January 16, 1969 ) is a Bulgarian politician and lawyer. She has been party leader of the BSP since May 2016 .

Life

In 2003 the law graduate joined the BSP. In 2005 she was appointed deputy to Rumen Ovcharov , Minister of Economy and Energy in the Stanishev government . When Ovcharow resigned in 2007 in the wake of a corruption and judicial scandal, she also resigned .

In 2009 she was elected to the Bulgarian Parliament for the first time .

In May 2016 she was elected the new party leader of the BSP at the party congress and prevailed against the previous party leader Mikhail Mikov with 395 to 349 delegate votes . In 2014 she was still inferior to Mikow in the election of party chairman. Ninowa is the first woman to hold the office of party leader of the BSP, as well as the first candidate who could successfully prevail against an incumbent.
