A series of five passenger ships that were built by VEB Yachtwerft Berlin in 1964 and 1965 is called the Kosmos class . The internal shipyard designation for the series was inland passenger ship 37.5 m / type Berlin - project 2303 . Three ships in the series were originally given names in connection with Soviet space technology, hence the name Kosmos class . All ships in the series are still in service today. Most of the ships were rebuilt, newly motorized and extended.

history

In the course of the urgently needed modernization of the passenger ship fleets in the area of the GDR, VEB Yachtwerft Berlin received the order to develop and build day excursion ships for use in scheduled service and in tourist excursion traffic in the early 1960s. The ships should be specially designed for use on the waterways of the Saale-Mittelelbe-Havel area. They had to comply with the given area conditions, i. H. correspond to the lock dimensions, the fairway depths and the bridge clearance heights on the specified waterways. As a result, a total of five ships of this series were built.

Technical specifications

The ships were 35.70 meters long and 5.80 meters wide when they were delivered to the shipyard. Her mean draft was 1.00 meters. The ships were driven by two SKL 6 NVD 21-2 engines which act on the propellers via gears. Two generators, each driven by a diesel engine of the HK 65 series (type designation NZD 9/12) from the Karl-Marx-Stadt diesel power plant, are available for power supply on board. The ships were originally approved for 280 passengers. The ships have three decks. The engine room and the utility area with kitchen, refrigeration and storage rooms are located on the lower deck. The main deck is divided into the open fore section, the closed passenger area for about 130 guests and the open, covered stern section. The wheelhouse and an open passenger area are located on the upper deck.
