history

In the 18th century the Kosttor barracks was the most important artillery base for the Munich garrison .

The barracks building was two-storeyed around 1800, about 74 m long, up to 12 m wide and about 7 m high. At that time the barracks offered space for 420 soldiers.

In the period between 1800 and 1803 the building fabric was badly worn out, which units were quartered in the Kosttor barracks at that time is unknown. The 2nd Line Infantry Regiment "Kurprinz" was housed there in 1803/04. In the wake of the Fourth Coalition War , French soldiers were quartered in the Kosttor barracks in 1806 . They withdrew in May 1806.

The French were followed by an artillery regiment. In 1808 the barracks were occupied with 430 soldiers more than in 1800, while in 1820 there was only room for 310 men. From 1820, the professional of the artillery regiment was in the barracks, the equipment depot, regimental office and a tailor's workshop. There was a barracks butcher's shop since 1800.

In 1826 the barracks housed a detention facility, an infirmary, the regimental cash register and a regimental school. The occupancy was 232 men. This sank to 226 soldiers in 1833, Profoss had moved to the adjutant's house.

The state of construction of the barracks was classified in 1852 as "mediocre". At that time, 265 soldiers were stationed in the Kosttor barracks. Due to the Maximilianstrasse planned in the middle of the 19th century, the demolition of the facility was foreseeable. From autumn 1853 part of the building was demolished; soldiers were still housed in the still intact south wing of the barracks at that time. In September 1855 this was also cleared and completely demolished. In spring 1857 the site was sold to King Maximilian II for 31,456 guilders .
