Kotebel is a Spanish progressive rock band that was formed in 1999.

Band history

Carlos Guillermo Plaza, a classically trained musician, first founded Kotebel as a solo project. For the keyboard-heavy debut album Structures , which is rooted in classical music , he was supported by guest musicians Omar Acosta (flute) and Carlos Franco (percussion). In 2002 and 2003, two more albums were released, in which, in addition to Acosta, guitarist César García Forero and singer Carolina Prieto were involved. Here Plaza, whose music has now been distributed by Musea , took on further influences from symphonic, progressive and jazz rock.

When Kotebel were invited to the BajaProg festival in 2004, Plaza had to put together a live band. He made use of his previous guest musicians as well as Jaime Pascual (bass) and Marisa Cabrelles (keyboard). This eventually led to a permanent line-up and Kotebel was no longer a solo project. Cabrelles was replaced by Adriana Plaza Engelke for the fourth album Omphalos , which was released in 2006; Acosta left the band after the recordings due to time constraints, Prieto also left the band in 2007.

Since then, Kotebel have appeared again as an instrumental band. The fifth album Ouroboros was released in 2009, in the same year the band went on tour in Japan and performed at some festivals in Spain and Italy. The following two years were dedicated to live performances and the preparation of the next album, which was released in 2012 with the title Concerto for Piano and Electric Ensemble .
