Koxie (* 26. February 1972 in Paris as Laure Cohen ) is a French pop singer . She became known in her home country with the single Garçon, which was initially launched on the Internet .

Career

At the age of twelve, Koxie took hip-hop and theater classes on the prestigious Cours Florent . When she was 20 she moved to New York . There she trained as an actress at the Herbert Bergoff Studio and as a dancer at the Broadway Dance Center. After her return to France she founded the studio FAME in 1998 with the aim of training young actors , which she headed for eight years.

Several short films were made during this time. In 2005 she appeared in the feature film Les Mauvais Joueurs . She also worked for the radio stations Fun Radio and Europe 2 . In 1999 she started making music with Baron Faty, the singer of the band Boogotop , and in 2002 she made her first test recordings as a solo artist.

Her breakthrough came in the summer of 2007 with her debut single Garçon . The title describes a young girl who resists a boy of the same age who speaks disparagingly about her. In doing so, she relies on a rape sample by the American musician Dr. Dre . Initially, she published the song on her site on the MySpace Internet platform . After the song was called there over a million times, she got a contract with the record label AZ . The single came onto the French market on June 25, 2007 and rose to number 1 on the sales charts. In August 2007, her debut album Koxie was released , on which she has been working since 2005.
