Krafft Basel
The Krafft Basel combines the Hotel Krafft Basel and the Krafft Basel restaurant in the Swiss city of Basel . The house, which stands in Kleinbasel's old town directly on the banks of the Rhine near the Mittlere Brücke, was built between 1872 and 1873 and is a listed building. The hotel has been a member of the Swiss Historic Hotels Association since 2005 .
history
The hotel opened in 1873 under the name "Hotel Krafft". After the fall of the city walls on the Kleinbasel side of the Rhine, the landlord Ernst Krafft (grandfather of Karl Ernst Krafft ) took advantage of the spirit of optimism and had the hotel built in the centrally located Rheingasse. The architect Ferdinand Iselin designed a spacious, classicist building. In 1946 the Waldmeier family from Fricktal took over the house. In 1958, the hotel underwent a complete renovation and received an extension with a passage to the Rhine and loggias in the attic. In 2002 the Basel restaurateur Franz-Xaver Leonhardt bought the traditional house, which was later taken over by the Edith Maryon Foundation as owner. It concluded a long-term lease agreement with the newly founded Krafft AG (today the Krafft Group). Between 2003 and 2010, the dining restaurant was expanded and rebuilt, the hotel rooms were renovated, a smoking room and seminar room were installed, the hotel dépendance and the Bar Consum across the Rheingasse opened, and the roof terrace rooms in the main building were expanded.

Today, the Krafft Basel is a 3-star superior hotel in the upper price segment with a restaurant, a seminar room, a smoking room and the Consum bar. The Hotel Krafft Basel has sixty rooms in different categories. There are 48 hotel rooms in the main building and 12 in the dépendance. The Krafft Basel restaurant has space for 80 people and a large terrace right on the banks of the Rhine. Hubert Mayer has been the restaurant's head chef since 2016.
Awards
- In 2007, the Hotel Krafft Basel was named Historic Hotel of the Year by ICOMOS Switzerland.
- In 2016 Hotel Krafft Basel received the “City Historic Hotel Award 2017” from Historic Hotels of Europe.
Krafft Group
The Krafft Group was founded in 2003. Their roots lie in the Krafft Basel. The group is managed by its partners, some of whom are also active in the various companies. In addition to Krafft Basel, the Krafft Group includes three other companies:
