The power plant Montézic ( French Centrale de Montézic ) with a total installed capacity of 912 MW , the second largest pumped storage power plant in France after the power plant Grand-Maison . The four generators of the power plant each have a maximum output of 228 MW. They were put into operation in 1983 and are located in an underground machine house. Montézic is owned by Electricité de France (EDF) and is also operated by EDF.
The lower basin of the power plant is the Couesque dam on the Truyère River , and the upper basin is the Montézic dam. The two dams and the Montézic power plant are part of a chain of 15 dams and 9 hydropower plants on the Truyère and Lot rivers , which together have an installed capacity of 1950 MW.
When the upper basin is full, the Montézic power plant can supply 900 MW for 30 hours. Conversely, the pumps need 40 hours to fill the empty upper basin.
