The Ugljevik Power Plant ( Termoelektrana Ugljevik / Термоелектрана Угљевик) is a coal-fired power plant in Ugljevik , in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina . It is located west of the village on the Janja . The operator is Rudnik i termoelektrana "Ugljevik" , a subsidiary of Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske .

The power plant was built between 1979 and 1985 and commissioned in May 1985. It has an electrical output of 300 megawatts . It was designed for two blocks of this type, but the construction of the second block was not completed. The 310 m high chimney is the tallest structure in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Coal has been mined in this area since 1899, but it has only been used for electricity since 1985. During the Bosnian War , the plant was out of operation from April 1992 to November 1995.

The company, which includes a mine in addition to the power plant, employs around 1,600 people (as of 2009).
