A collar band is a narrow piece of light-colored fabric that is buttoned directly into the collar of a jacket .

This piece of clothing, which is hardly in use any more, was or is mainly still used in the service uniforms of the armies to prevent sweating of the uniform material of the field jacket or field suit worn without a protective shirt on the neck (in soldier jargon, collar fat ). The collar band is usually changed daily.
