from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cantilever plate describes a building element in architecture .

Cantilever slab at the Fallingwater house

The cantilever slab protrudes from a facade, so it "projects" over it. A balcony slab is always a cantilever slab. The cantilever plate is also used as a roof for the entrance or for the basement staircase.

In the case of wayside shrines , the cantilever plate is often used as a simple design element with no special function between the pillar and the top.
