Kraken Mare
The Kraken Mare is a methane lake on the Saturn satellite Titan . With an area of around 400,000 square kilometers, it is likely to be larger than the Caspian Sea . It is the largest known lake on this moon and is located at 68 ° N / 310 ° W west of Ligeia Mare in the North Pole region. Recent measurements confirm the nature of the lake by measuring the reflection of the surface.
It was founded in 2007 by the Cassini - spacecraft discovered and in 2008 after the octopus , one in Norway , named legendary sea monster.
One island in the lake was named Mayda Insula .
As part of the planned TandEM ( T itan and E nceladus M ission) of ESA and NASA , which is to start in 2020 , a lander is planned, which is to land on Kraken Mare in 2030, in order to a. to precisely determine its composition and depth.
