The pagoda of the yellow crane ( Chinese  黃鶴樓  /  黄鹤楼 , Pinyin Huánghèlóu  - "yellow crane tower") is an art-historically significant building in Wǔhàn , Hubei Province in the People's Republic of China .

location

The pagoda is located on the Sheshan Mountain in the middle of the Wuchang district and thus near the Yangtze River . This mountain rises noticeably above the city, which is why you have a wide view of all parts of the city from the crane pagoda. The pagoda was built on the so-called "Yellow Crane Rock", hence the name.

history

The complex was built in 223, during the time of the three kingdoms (三國 / 三国), as a wooden structure. In the following centuries the tower was destroyed more often by fire, but also by changing rulers. Thus, he went through different stages of appearance. Inside the tower you can find wooden panels and models that explain and show the history and the changes over time.

Cui Hao ( Chinese崔 顥 / 崔 颢Pinyin Cuī Hào), a celebrated poet of the Tang Dynasty (唐朝), visited the building in the early eighth century. His poem called "Huanghe Tower" made the tower the most famous building in southern China.

Facts

The current tower was completed in 1985, the design was taken from images from the Qing Dynasty (清朝). The construction work took four years. It has five floors and is 51 meters high. With the exception of the elevator installed, the tower corresponds to the historical model both inside and outside.
