Hospital hygienist

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A hospital hygienist is a specially trained doctor ( specialist in hygiene and environmental medicine and / or specialist in microbiology, virology and infection epidemiology) who advises the hospital management and staff on hygiene issues. In the Free State of Bavaria, the Bavarian State Ministry for Environment and Health has ordered in the Ordinance on Hygiene and Infection Prevention in Medical Institutions (MedHygV) in the version of February 1, 2010, that people without a license to practice medicine have a scientific degree or have completed a degree in veterinary medicine and have been demonstrably working as a hospital hygienist with corresponding tasks for at least 15 years on January 1, 2017, may continue to perform the function of hospital hygienist.

Some state medical associations have created the possibility of acquiring an additional medical qualification in hospital hygiene by completing a curricular training course. After a practical phase under supervision, the doctors trained in this way can then also be employed as hospital hygienists.

According to the guidelines of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), a full-time hospital hygienist should be employed in acute hospitals with over 400 beds.

In clinics without a full-time hospital hygienist (or with external supervision), the tasks are carried out in whole or in part by the so-called " hygiene officer doctor ", who usually only has training courses.
