Front and back of the Neuadd Siarman Pillar Cross

The cross of Neuadd Siarman in Powys (also Llanynis pillar cross called) is one of the best Celtic stone carvings at the transition from the 9th to the 10th century in Wales . The cross is columnar ( pillar cross ) with richly ornamented front and back and a continuous loop simple ornament on both sides.

The smaller of the Penmon crosses

The 1.77 m high cross emphasizes the symbolism of the world axis, which imperceptibly merges with the shaft without protrusions from the upper wheel cross. The representations of the cross on both sides are entirely decorated with knot patterns of pagan origin. It is in the Brecknock Museum & Art Gallery in Brecon .

Similar shaped and decorated crosses can be found in Penmon on the northeast tip of Anglesey and Nevern in Pembrokeshire .
