history

Dresch. “The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation classifies the wayside shrine as a monument under the number D-6-75-165-32.

description

The wayside shrine represents a crucifixion group on the street side with the crucified, Mary and John . The abbot of Münsterschwarzach Martin (1466–1494) is shown kneeling between Mary and Jesus . A Gothic minuscule below the scene reads: "Ano • dni • m • cccc • lxxv / feria • quart a • p • Jacobi" (In the year of the Lord 1475 on the Wednesday after Jacobi).

Saints Felicitas (right) and Benedict (left) stand on the narrower sides . At the top, the wayside shrine ends in a gable roof crowned by two towers . The reverse shows the dead Jesus with his head sunk on his chest and Mary and John adoring him. There is also the same inscription there. The word "qrta" can be traced back to a spelling mistake by the restorer.
