Cross catalog

A cross-catalog (also dictionary catalog , English. Dictionary Catalog ) is a library catalog , which both authors' names and other title ( formal indexing ) and tags ( indexing records). It is a hybrid of the two conventional card catalogs alphabetical catalog (author name, subject title, possibly corporation) and subject catalog subject catalog . Works can therefore be listed up to three times in a cross catalog, by author, title and keyword. Keywords (parts, keywords) from the title can also be taken into account.

Cross catalogs were considered to be particularly user-friendly because they did not require any knowledge of the often complicated classification rules. With the advent of electronic catalogs ( OPACs ), cross- catalogs have become superfluous, as you can combine different search categories here.

A cross catalog corresponds to the cross register in the book industry.
