The Kreuzscheune is a rebuilt - formerly listed - pipe barn in Illmitz in Burgenland.

The pipe barn with a floor plan in the shape of a cross is located in the center of Illmitz, the lowest place in Austria. The barn was named in the year 1859. The barn was built in a post construction with a wall cladding made of bound reeds. The barn originally served as a stable for the community animals and breeding boars, as well as a store for animal feed.

Due to the technical development and the boom in agriculture, the community barn was finally no longer used and the community of Illmitz leased the building from then on as a restaurant, first as a simple heuriger where lard bread, water and wine were served, later it was leased to local residents, the one Made it a center of attraction of the place.

In the night from 1993 to 1994 the Pussbag barn burned down. After the Illmitzer did not want to lose their landmark , the building was reconstructed with the help of original wooden trusses from the Vienna Hofburg . Parts fell victim to another fire in 1994, the wooden parts used were incorporated in order to preserve the rustic look.

The building now serves as a Heurigen restaurant again, in which traditional gypsy music is played.
