The Göhren war memorial is a listed war memorial in Göhren on the Mönchgut peninsula belonging to Rügen .

It is located east of the beach path on a hill that drops steeply to the north to the Baltic Sea . To the east of the monument, the De Rönn gorge leads down to the waterfront.

Design and history

The war memorial was erected to commemorate those of the community of Göhren who died in the First World War and inaugurated in 1922. The Göhren Forest Church, built in 1890, was previously located at this location. Later, the memorial was also dedicated to the memorial for the victims of the Second World War .

The monument, made of large stone blocks, is inscribed on its front with the following text:

In 1957, the memorial was the subject of political disputes. The CDU planned to lay a wreath on Death Sunday , but the SED prevented this.
