War memorial in Trotha (Halle (Saale))

The war memorial in Trotha is a war memorial on the memorial square in the Trotha district of Halle (Saale) . The square bears its name after the monument.

The red sandstone structure consists of an obelisk on a cube-shaped base. It commemorates the citizens of Trotha who perished in the German War of 1866 and in the Franco-German War of 1870/71 . A total of 91 citizens of the then still independent Trotha took part in the two wars. Adrian Dietrich Lothar von Trotha (1848–1920) was involved in both wars. This may be one reason why such a monument was erected in Trotha. The construction was initiated by the Warrior Association in Trotha.

The names of the fallen are mentioned on the memorial:

  • 1866; on the left: Friedrich Wilhelm Christel
  • 1870/71; on the right: Albert Hermann Boost, Friedrich Wilhelm Knaust, Carl August Müller

The front and back have inscriptions:

  • Front: The Lord has done great things for us - we are happy
  • Back: Those who have fallen in the field of honor - Those who have returned victoriously for recognition - Coming generations for a warning

The memorial and writing are weathered.

On the forecourt of the neighboring St. Briccius Church stood the memorial for the 177 Trothas who died in the First World War, inaugurated on July 4, 1926 . The memorial was demolished in 1947. (see in detail there ).
