War memorial in Vockerode

The war memorial in Vockerode (Saxony-Anhalt) is a memorial to commemorate the inhabitants of the community who died in the First World War .

The monument consists of a large boulder that rests on a very simple concrete foundation. The foundation is framed by several smaller boulders.

The memorial is now back in its original place on the Elbwall in Vockerode ("Nelsonhügel") after it was placed in the cemetery next to the church. The only decoration is an iron cross carved over the memorial slogan. The inscription contains ten names without any further data.

The Nelsonhügel site got its name in 1805 when Prince Franz planned a memorial here for the English national hero Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson . Due to the wars of liberation , however, it was not carried out. The hill was removed in the late 1950s as part of the power plant expansion and the war memorial was moved to the cemetery.
