The War Museum houses the historical weapons collection of the Greek Ministry of Defense. It is in a prominent location on Vassilis Sophia Avenue in Athens and was built by the military junta ; however, it was only opened after its fall in 1975. Branches were later opened in Thessaloniki and Chania.

exhibition

The exhibition is divided into ten halls:

There are also showcases with Asian and Oriental weapons.

In addition to larger weapons (including two of only five surviving vehicles ), aircraft are also exhibited on the open-air site . In the meantime, some important ones have been transferred to the Museum of the Greek Air Force . What remained at the museum were those that were present several times (such as the Starfighter ) or that were closely related to the founding of the museum (the “ Daidalos ”).

Special exhibitions

In 2004, a special exhibition on the design of everything from simple aids to prostheses was shown under the motto “Design for Everyone”.
