The Judicial Police of Lithuania is the Judicial Police of the Republic of Lithuania . The Lithuanian Criminal Police Office is the main body of the Criminal Police. It was established on October 1st, 2001 on the basis of the non-territorial principle. The Lithuanian Criminal Police Office is subordinate to the Police Department at the Ministry of Interior of Lithuania .

On January 20, 1919, Friedrich Ziegler was appointed assistant in the criminal field for the head of the Kaunas militia on the basis of a decision by Interior Minister Z. Starkus. On August 15, 1919, P. Maksimov was appointed head of the Kaunas Criminal Department on the basis of a resolution by the Interior Minister. In 1920 there were 60 secret agents of the criminal militia. On September 1, 1920, the Lithuanian Criminal Police Office was established, headed by A. Veselis. In 1926 the legitimation mark was created by the painter A. Žmuidzinavičius . From 1926 there was a supplement as a magazine "Kriminalinės žinios policijai" of the magazine "Policija". From 1930 it was published as "Kriminalinės policijos žinios" in Kaunas until 1944.

In 1927 the criminal police were connected to the political (security) police, Kriminalinė policija . In 1928 the Statute of the Criminal Police ( Kriminalinės policijos statutas ) was confirmed by the Lithuanian Minister of the Interior. In 1930 the Criminal Police Museum was restructured. From 1936 the journal “Kriminalistikos žinynas” was published with the help of scientists and criminologists. In 1940 there were 227 employees in the criminal investigation department.

In 1991, the Aras Anti-Terrorism Task Force was established as a separate special unit of the Lithuanian police.
