Cryohemorrhoidectomy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kryohämorrhoidektomie (from ancient Greek κρύος kryos , Frost ',' ice cream '; Greek αἷμα Haima , German , blood' and ῥεῖν pure , flowing 'and ancient Greek ἐκτομή , ektomế , excision') is a now obsolete process for the treatment of symptomatic haemorrhoids ( Hemorrhoid disease). In the English-language specialist literature, the procedure is referred to as cryohemorrhoidectomy .

description

Cryohemorrhoidectomy is a cryosurgical procedure. Freezing causes local tissue destruction, which results in a substantial watery discharge lasting several hours , which in some cases can last up to four weeks. Cryosurgery itself is painless, but the pain after the procedure can extend over several weeks and sometimes last longer than with classic hemorrhoidectomy. The method is largely obsolete today. Since 1989 there have been no current publications on the process.

The American Martin I. Lewis developed cryohemorrhoidectomy in 1969.
