The Kwatay (also Kuatay or Kuwaataay ) is a West Atlantic language related to the Diola , which is mainly spoken in Casamance in the south of Senegal .

It is part of the Bak languages, a subgroup of the North West Atlantic languages ​​within the large Niger-Congo family of languages .

The Kwatay is spoken in Casamance, Diembéring, Bouyouye, Nyikine, Boucott Diola and in some coastal towns south of the mouth of the Casamance River and in Dakar .

In 2002 the nationwide census counted 5,625 speakers.
