layout

Front view of the Kuggen.

The outer coat consists of glazed ceramic plates in six different shades of red and one shade of green. "Kuggen" should be minimized around the ratio of the outer jacket to the surface. Each floor is slightly larger than the one below. Therefore, the building grows with each floor. A movable sun visor follows the sun and darkens the windows on the top two floors. (The other buildings in the area cast shadows on the lower floors.)

Green building

Kuggen uses four measures for a green building : adaptable ventilation and lighting systems, interactive heating and cooling, and effective use of daylight. The ceramic tiles on the facade were selected for their durability. The windows are triangular and allow daylight to penetrate deep into the building and at the same time only take up a small (30%) part of the wall surface. The result is a building that aims at 60 kW / year / m 2 of energy consumption. This is far below what is expected from green buildings . Nevertheless, it meets high standards of comfort (temperatures in the offices are between 22 and 26 degrees Celsius).
