Sokolovce (German Sockolowetz , Hungarian Vágszakály - until 1907 Szokolóc is a municipality in) west of Slovakia with a population of 1,367 (December 31, 2019) that the Piešťany District , part of the kraj Trnavský belongs.

geography

The village is located on the left bank of the Váh, below the western slope of Považský Inovec . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 154  m nm and is seven kilometers from Piešťany and 12 kilometers from Hlohovec .

history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1293 as Zokol and was named after the original inhabitants, the royal falconers . A parish is mentioned in 1332, but it later went under and belonged to the Ardanovce parish for a long time . The village belonged to local nobles. In 1828 there are 57 houses and 399 inhabitants. The main source of income was and is agriculture, earlier viticulture was important, in the 19th century brick production was widespread. Today part of the population commutes to work.

The place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
