Vrbové (German Vrbau or modernized Werbau , Hungarian Verbó ) is a city in western Slovakia .
Location and history
Vrbové is located in the Danube Hills on the Holečka River at the foot of the Little Carpathians , 10 km from Piešťany and 31 km from Trnava . The town was mentioned for the first time in 1332 and was part of the Čachtice Castle estate .
Attractions
Sights include the leaning tower (deviation 99 cm), the parish church of St. Martin (oldest preserved building in the city), the church of St. Gorazd, the curia of Moritz Benjowski and a synagogue . To the north-west of the city is the small Čerenec reservoir.
Residents
According to the 2001 census, of 6249 inhabitants, 98.75% were Slovaks and 0.59% were Czechs. The dominant denomination was the Roman Catholic with 75.48%, followed by the Protestant with 10.67%. 10.80% of the population gave no answer.
