Nižná (until 1927 Slovak 'Nižná "; Hungarian Nézsnafalva - until 1907 Nizsna ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 550 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Piešťany District , part of the kraj Trnavský belongs.

geography

The municipality is located in the Trnavská pahorkatina hills not far from the Little Carpathians . The Vítek brook flows through the village and flows into the Dudváh in the neighboring Veľké Kostoľany . Outside the center of the village, the 8 km² municipality is dominated by agriculture and borders the following municipalities: Dolný Lopašov in the northeast, Veľké Kostoľany in the southeast, Radošovce in the south, Kátlovce in the west and Chtelnica in the northwest. The center of the village is at an altitude of 183  m nm and is 21 kilometers from Trnava and 24 kilometers from Piešťany .

history

In contrast to other places in the area, Nižná was mentioned relatively late, in 1532 as Nysnia . The place was probably created by outsourcing from the municipal areas of Chtelnica and Veľké Kostoľany at an unknown time, but a tax register from 1452 speaks about a place called Nižná Ves , which is possibly identical to the village of Nižná . The first known landowners came from the Onory family .

After the Turkish wars in the 17th century Nižná was devastated and the Onory family died out in 1688. Count Kristóf Erdődy acquired the place from the royal chamber for 10,000  florins and incorporated it into the estate of Guttenstein Castle . In 1828 there were 64 houses and 443 inhabitants in Nižná.

The place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
