geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the Trnavská pahorkatina hills (part of the Slovak Danube lowlands ). The Dubová brook and the Orvištský kanál canal flow through the municipality . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 164 m nm and is six kilometers away from Piešťany .
history
Veľké Orvište was first mentioned in writing in 1113 in the Zobor documents as Rivvis . The name goes back to the time of the old Hungarian Gyepű system. Originally the place belonged to the estate of the castle Bana. After the castle became insignificant at the beginning of the 14th century, its goods were divided between different sexes. A second village later formed in the municipality, which has been differentiated from the main town since the late 16th century and from which the town of Malé Orvište developed.
In 1828 there were 75 houses and 525 inhabitants in Ve Häuserké Orvište.
In 1976 Veľké Orvište merged with the neighboring town of Bašovce into the municipality of Orvište, which was incorporated into the municipality of Ostrov in 1980 , to which Malé Orvište has belonged since 1974 until today . After a referendum in 1990, the place regained independence.
