Banka (Hungarian Bánka ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 2060 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). Administratively it belongs to the Okres Piešťany , which in turn is part of the Trnavský kraj . According to the 2001 census, the population is almost exclusively Slovak (97.2%).

The municipality is located on the western slope of the Považský Inovec (German Inowetz ) mountains , on the left bank of the Váh , which is stowed here in the Sĺňava reservoir . Banka is only two kilometers from Piešťany city ​​center.

history

The place is an old settlement with finds from the Bronze Age, Roman Age and the early Middle Ages. The settlement is mentioned for the first time in 1241 in connection with the now defunct Bana Castle.

1973 the place was incorporated into the city Piešťany. On July 1, 1995, Banka became independent again after a valid referendum.
