Adalbert Ehrenfried

Adalbert Ehrenfried (actually Hermann August Ehrenfried ; born May 22, 1910 in Neckarsulm ; † October 15, 2002 in Münster ) was a German religious, theologian and author .

He came as the twelfth of 13 children of the wine grower Joseph Karl Ehrenfried and his wife Maria Karolina geb. Ebert to the world and attended the elementary school in Neckarsulm and the Fideliskolleg in Bensheim . After graduating from high school, he entered the Capuchin novitiate in Stühlingen in 1930 . He studied philosophy and theology at the internal colleges in Krefeld and Münster . On March 20, 1936, he was ordained a priest in Münster. In 1941 he came to the Capuchin Monastery in Mainz as a guardian , where he did some work for the reconstruction after the severe damage caused by air raids. In 1947 he became pastor at the completely destroyed Holy Cross Church in Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein , where he also pushed ahead with the reconstruction. In 1955 he came to Karlsruhe , where he became pastor in 1959. In 1970 he moved to Zell am Harmersbach as a pilgrimage chaplain .

In addition to his pastoral work, Ehrenfried has also published numerous writings. The main focus of his writing was on local and church historical writings from the area around his hometown Neckarsulm and from his field of activity in the Ortenau as well as church leaders and appreciation of Franz Josef Ritter von Buß .

His life story was the subject of the book Barfuß auf dem Paradies - The Life Story of the Capuchin Father Adalbert Ehrenfried, published in 1994 by Bernhard Lott .
