Bašovce (Hungarian Bassóc ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 342 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Piešťany District of, part Trnavský kraj belongs.

geography

The community is located in the Trnavská pahorkatina (part of the Slovakian Danube lowlands ), on a corridor terrace of the Dudváh . The center of the village is at an altitude of 165  m nm and is eight kilometers from Piešťany .

history

There was a settlement ( Bandkeramische Kultur ) in the Stone Age (4600 BC to 3800 BC) in today's municipal area . A Slavic settlement was here in the 9th century.

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1113 in the Zobor documents as Bessan . At the end of the 14th century, Bašovce belonged to the estate of the Čachtice castle , after 1414 to the Augustinian provost in the nearby town of Nové Mesto nad Váhom . In 1828 there are 51 houses and 359 inhabitants. The main source of income was and is agriculture, and viticulture was also important in the late Middle Ages.

The place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

In 1976, Bašovce was merged with the neighboring Veľké Orvište into the Orvište municipality, which in turn was incorporated into the Ostrov municipality in 1980. In 1993 the place was given independence again.
