Krakovany (Hungarian Krakovány - until 1907 Krakován ) is a municipality in western Slovakia . It is located in the Danube hill country by the Holeška brook , 2 km from Vrbové , 9 km from Piešťany and about 30 km from Trnava .
The Stráže burial ground indicates a settlement during the Roman Empire. The place was first mentioned in writing in 1113 as Craco , it is a well-known archaeological excavation site. In 1944 the village Stráže (Hungarian Vágőr ) was annexed to the place.
At the excavation site, a collection of luxury goods made of glass, bronze, silver and gold was found in three graves, which date from between 200 and 300 AD.
There are two churches in the village (from 1270 and 1702).
