Šterusy (Hungarian Cseterőc - until 1907 Sterusz ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 503 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Piešťany District , part of the kraj Trnavský belongs.
geography
The municipality is located in the north of the Trnavská pahorkatina hills below the Little Carpathians . The Šteruský creek flows through the middle of the village . The town center is located at an altitude of 209 m nm and is 4.5 kilometers from Vrbové and 14 kilometers from Piešťany .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1262 as Cheteruch and originally belonged to the territory of Neutra Castle . After that the village was divided between local noblemen and Guttenstein Castle . In 1452 40 farms are mentioned in a tax register. Similar to other places in the area, the village was ravaged several times by the Ottomans in the 16th century. In 1828 there are 81 houses and 567 inhabitants. In addition to agriculture, viticulture was important in the Middle Ages and modern times, and fruit growing since the 19th century. A school in the village is mentioned around the middle of the 19th century.
The place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
The previous part of the municipality Pustá Ves has belonged to the Prašník municipality since 1958 .
