Where Stráže , Piešťany / Trnavský kraj

The cemetery of Stráže from the later Roman imperial era with a few, but richly furnished elite graves , was discovered in the 1930s. It is located near the village of Stráže west of the town of Piešťany in the Waag Valley in western Slovakia . Today the village belongs to the Krakovany municipality in Trnavský kraj .

The body burials of Stráže, richly furnished with Roman goods, belong, together with the graves of Czéke and Osztrópataka, to the elite graves of the younger Roman Empire discovered furthest south-east. With the dating to level C1b / C2, they are also among the oldest graves in this group. Created a few generations after the end of the Marcomann Wars , the additions in the elite graves - luxury Roman crockery and numerous silver objects - and the location in the northern Pannonian Limes foreland show close ties to the Roman Empire . They are located outside the fire necropolis and can be linked to a quadratic elite, the nobiles . In these graves symbolic silver weapons are already represented. The allocation to the elite of the Quads follows from the temporal parallelism to the written tradition.

The archaeological findings in the richly furnished quadruped graves, which very probably prove the existence of an elite connected to Rome, indicate a process of acculturation and Romanization among the quadrupeds.
