Jan Filip (prehistoric)

Jan Filip (born December 25, 1900 in Chocnějovice , † April 30, 1981 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak prehistorian .

Life

Filip was professor of prehistory at the University of Prague , director of the Archaeological Institute and a member of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences . He wrote numerous scientific works, including two works that are fundamental to archaeological research in Central Europe. He was also the founder of the specialist journal Archeologické rozhledy , which has been published since 1949. In 1966 he was elected a corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and in 1976 of the British Academy .

Filip shaped the next generation of Czech researchers. Through his statements, which are not impaired by national or political reasons, he has a role model effect. A large part of his works is still relevant today.
