Cultic center

The cultic center in Qarabağlar consists of a mausoleum and two minarets , of which only ruins have been preserved. It is on the outskirts of the village of Qarabağlar in Nakhchivan and is the only remnant of the former city of Qarabağlar. The minarets were probably built in the 12th century, the style of the mausoleum refers to the 14th century.

mausoleum

The mausoleum of the Jahan Kudi Chatun forms the core of the cultic center. The building consists of twelve interwoven half-cylinders, which rest on a foundation lined with stone slabs. The facade is adorned with colored tiles that, with sand-colored bricks, form a square mesh pattern with white inscriptions on it. A dark blue leaf thread forms the end of the facade. The cornice, roof and vault that were above have not been preserved.

The mausoleum has four gates that point in the four cardinal directions. The gates to the south, east and west are decorated with three-quarter columns and a stalactite vault. There are garlands in Kufic script on the tiled door frames . There are also plant ornaments on the south and west gates, and geometric motifs on the east gate. In contrast to the others, the north gate has a deeper wall niche and partly gilded tiles. The walls are clad with stone slabs.

Minarets

Near the mausoleum there is a gate with a minaret on each side. Both have elongated bases and a three-pass ceiling finish. The lower part of the minarets is decorated with turquoise glazed tiles, which are closed at the top by a wide strip of Arabic script . The spiral staircase of the southern minaret begins at the level of the ground floor. Behind the gate was originally a building, from the roof of which the spiral staircase of the northern minaret was accessible.
