The Republic of Strandscha ( Bulgarian Странджанска република ) was a "republic", which was founded on August 5th . / August 18, 1903 greg. on the day of the transfiguration of the Lord (Bulgarian: Preobraschenie day), during the Ilinden-Preobraschenie uprising against the Ottoman Empire by the Bulgarian Macedonia-Adrianople Revolutionary Committee (BMARK) in the Petrowa Niwa area . This was the prelude to the uprising in eastern Thrace in the Ottoman Vilayet Edirne (Adrianople). Their territory comprised the Strandscha Mountains and today's southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast .

The republic elected Mikhail Gerdschikow , Stamat Ikonomow , and Lasar Madscharow at its head. The Strandscha Republic organized the entire public and economic life of the region for the following 26 days, until the uprising was brutally suppressed by regular and irregular units of the Ottoman army.
