V. or the Milbertshofen artist network. After all, the Munich Adult Education Center also organizes educational offers and cultural projects here.

history

In the eighties, a cultural center for the north of Munich was requested for the first time and in 1986 the Munich city council decided to build a community center there. The place for this should be a piece of land on Schleissheimer Strasse between Piccolomini and Keferloherstrasse. Nevertheless, the opening could only be celebrated almost twenty years later.

For a long time, financing was the main problem for the realization. In the mid-nineties, for example, the cultural department suggested that the associations in the north of Munich build the desired house on their own - with building materials that were to be made available by demolishing in Augustenstrasse. However, this proposal did not find a majority in the clubs. A public tender was issued three years later, but initially no further steps followed.

Finally, in 1997, the "Friends of the Milbertshofen Community House" was founded in order to better negotiate with the cultural department and to promote the project more strongly. At the same time, broad support was promised to the association and its board of directors - from city councils, members of the state parliament, the cultural department and members of the responsible district committee. A symbolic act of the development association was the solemn unveiling of a building board as part of a citizens' festival, which promised that construction should start in the same year. For this purpose, the space program for the main usable areas was drawn up with the architectural office Reichert, Pranschke, Maluche and a requirements plan was drawn up. In the period that followed, the project was discussed a lot and plans were further developed, but in the end there was no implementation.

After Milbertshofen was included in the federal / state program “Socially Integrative City ”, district politicians began to push the project forward and created a concept that could be financed. As part of the “Socially Integrative City”, one of the city council's redevelopment goals was to set up a facility in Milbertshofen to strengthen cultural and social activities. This was to become the Milbertshofen Culture House, so that in May 2001 the Munich City Council voted unanimously in favor of the Milbertshofen Culture House. Construction work should begin in autumn 2002. The opening was planned for the end of 2004. When the city council decided to build the Jewish Museum months later in autumn 2002 , the plans for the Milbertshofen cultural center had to be revised again, as 800 civil defense rooms were to be relocated there.

Nevertheless, the foundation stone was laid in 2002. The "Friends of the Milbertshofen Community House" dissolved in May 2004 in order to found the "Milbertshofen Culture House" association before the opening of the Kulturhaus. In December 2004, an office (kultur_vergnuegen) was set up in the district store K 45 with the support of the planning department and the cultural department, in order to coordinate all activities there before the opening of the cultural center. Since then, this office has been supporting the cultural house's sponsoring association in all activities.
