The Harz Energie cultural power plant is a cabaret venue in Goslar . The program is organized on a voluntary basis by the “Förderkreis Goslarer Kleinkunsttage”.

history

The building at the Hildesheim road in Goslar was founded in 1909 as an urban DC - power plant built. At that time, a diesel engine was used to drive the DC generator , which was actually designed for the first submarines of that time. A second diesel engine was built in 1928. In 1959 the power plant ceased operations after the city of Goslar was completely supplied with alternating current by means of overhead lines.

The Toegel printing company started using the building in 1961, followed by the Nordharzer Druckerei Lehmann KG from 1964 for many years. Later it was leased to the Quelle mail order company, which operated a warehouse there. Most recently, the power plant was only used as a warehouse by the Nordharzer Kraftwerke (later Harz Energie ).

In 1980 the Förderkreis Goslarer Kleinkunsttage organized the “Goslarer Tage der Kleinkunst” for the first time, a festival whose program was organized in numerous different buildings in the city. Over the years this festival has become a permanent fixture in Goslar, while the demands on technology and logistics have increased continuously. At the beginning of the new millennium, this gave rise to the desire for an own, permanent venue with permanently installed stage technology .

In 2003 there were talks between the owner Harz Energie and the Goslarer Kleinkunsttage sponsorship group about using the former power station as a future venue. The first renovations, in particular with the construction of the stage, catering and sanitary facilities, began in autumn 2003, and the Harz Energie cultural power plant was officially opened on June 4, 2004.

Program and organization

The Förderkreis Goslarer Kleinkunsttage operates the venue with around 20 active members on a voluntary basis , including catering and technology. In addition to this permanent membership, there are sustaining members who support the association financially.

The program in the Kulturkraftwerk is characterized by cabaret , cabaret , puppet theater and music events. The quality feature is the personal evaluation and selection of suitable artists by the association's board. In this way, the venue was able to develop a sophisticated reputation among the audience as well as the performing artists.

The game is played all year round, with short breaks in the game in the winter and summer months. Renting out the building for private events is excluded.

Rooms and playing conditions

The rooms are designed for a maximum of 199 visitors (with seats). The permanently installed stage measures 9 × 5 meters. Sufficient lighting and sound technology is available for events of this size.

The cultural power plant is also characterized by details in the decoration. Museum pieces from the technical environment have found space throughout the building. A large bridge crane is located above the spectator area. The catering area is papered with notes. In the sanitary rooms, advertisements from the 1920s / 1930s and “urinal lyrics” are stuck to the walls.
