Culture loss
In sociology, the term culture loss refers to the partial or complete elimination of certain elements that make up culture . These elements are e.g. B. Norms , values , traditions or skills .
This culture loss can have a variety of causes, including:
- Social modernization
- Transformation processes
- Technical innovation processes
- Land grabbing , invasion, or occupation
- (alleged) foreign infiltration
Negative interpretation of the term
Since the 1970s, the term loss of culture has often been used in connection with the loss of traditional systems of values and norms and institutions in third world countries when they try to adapt their culture to Western ideals.
