Jakub Vadlejch (born October 10, 1990 in Prague ) is a Czech javelin thrower .

Career

At the Youth World Championships 2007 in Ostrava Jakub Vadlejch finished twelfth; a year later at the Junior World Championships in 2008 in Bydgoszcz tenth place. At the 2009 Junior European Championships in Novi Sad , Serbia , Jakub Vadlejch finished eighth with 69.63 m.

With his participation in the European Championships 2010 in Barcelona Vadlejch took part in a major international event for the first time, but could not qualify for the final with 76.04 m and 16th place in the qualification. With 80.08 m, he also reached 16th place in the qualification at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, Korea, and was eliminated.

Even at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London Vadlejch could not qualify for the final of the top twelve with 77.61 m as 25th in the javelin qualification . Also not at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing , where he finished 20th in qualification with 78.95 m.

At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro , Vadlejch took eighth place in the javelin final with 82.42 m. In the same year he won the Diamond League title with 50 points ahead of Thomas Röhler (46) and Julian Weber (15) .

At the 2017 World Championships in London , Vadlejch won the javelin final with a personal best of 89.73 m behind Johannes Vetter and ahead of compatriot Petr Frydrych ; he only missed 16 centimeters of gold. Two weeks later he won the Diamond League final in Zurich with 88.50 m ahead of Vetter .

His trainer is multiple Olympic champion and world record holder Jan Železný .
