Cultural center warehouse
The Kulturzentrum Lagerhaus at Schildstrasse 12-19 is an institution for innovative, artistic and socio-cultural work in Bremen . The building complex is in the district . In the former warehouse of the Bremer Konsum- und Wirtschaftsverein AG , around twenty groups and non-profit associations are based under the sponsoring association Kulturzentrum Lagerhaus Bremen eV .
history
Packhouse and administration building
Between 1893 and 1903, the Bremer Konsumverein in Schildstraße - one of the oldest streets in the Bremer Vorstadt, which was called Im Sack until 1872 - bought houses number 18 to 20. In the following years it built a large packing house and an administration building there. 1978 ended the use of the meanwhile in Brema Kolonialwarenverkauf AG (Brema) renamed consumer association. The building became the property of the city and was administered by the Bremen Society for Urban Renewal, Urban Development and Housing mbH .
Occupation and toleration
In 1978 the vacant area was occupied by various groups and initiatives and - tolerated by the city of Bremen - used as a meeting place and practice site for music and theater. In 1980, eleven initiatives received a written commitment to use the Schildstrasse 12-19 building as a cultural center. In 1981 the building received a major overhaul with urban development funds, money from the lottery and ABM funds .
Foundation of a cultural association
In 1982 different user groups created a joint statute and founded the sponsoring association Kulturzentrum Lagerhaus . It was recognized as a non-profit in 1983.
Cultural offer
The Kulturzentrum Lagerhaus, with its numerous cultural initiatives and many interdisciplinary offers in the areas of culture, migration and ecology, is a recognized place for innovative, artistic and socio-cultural work in Bremen.
