The Kumari Cave , also called Crazy Cave , is part of a cave system in Nepal that is located north of Pokhara near the village of Armala at an altitude of about 900  m .

description

The limestone cave is about 150 meters long, 25 feet (a little less than 8 meters) high, and consists of 7 chambers. Due to its U-shaped extension, it appears almost twice as long. Three entrances lead into the cave, although attempts have been made to wall up the largest of the entrances with little success. A meditation chamber with an altar naturally created by stalactites is located at the far end of the cave. This was only rediscovered in September 2009. There are other caves in the immediate vicinity, for example Mahendra Cave and Bat Cave .

Legend

The Crazy Cave , according to stories, got its name from the fact that everyone who enters the cave begins to perceive certain things, e.g. B. Whispers, moving shadows or eyes in the dark, and anyone who lingered in the cave would go crazy. This property of the cave made it popular for meditations and spiritual experiences. The rearmost chamber was used as a meditation room and provided with a variety of spiritual objects.

Research

In the spring of 2016, the adventurer and treasure hunter Rob Schmidt led an expedition to the cave to examine it more closely. The investigations showed that the peculiarities of the cave arise from its nature. The cave has a high concentration of crystals in the walls and floor. If you have a light, e.g. If you slide a flashlight or a torch over the walls, it is thrown back in such a way that, along with the large bat population of the cave, it casts a multitude of moving shadows. The cave also has three entrances: the main entrance in the north, the entrance through the ceiling in the northwest and the largest entrance in the east. If a gust of wind blows through the entrances, it sounds in the cave as if someone is whispering. So the phenomena all have an explanation. Some ritual artifacts were found in the meditation chamber of the cave.

tourism

The local tourist guide, Buland Basnet, stated that around twenty tourists visit the cave every day. However, the cave was unknown to most tourist guides in the nearest city of Pokhara until 2016.
