Kumu (unit)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The kumu was a New Zealand measure of length that was used to determine water depth. The measure was rather imprecise and was considered an estimate. Data from 10 Fathoms are not credible. The term kumu corresponds to the meaning of the fathoms , which embodied the length of the outstretched arms from hand to hand.

  • 1 cumu = 1 to 2 fathoms = about 1.80 meters ( thread ) to 3.60 meters (all approximate values)
