Customer stopper in a shopping street

A customer stopper is an advertising board in the form of a folding stand on which information can be attached. Sometimes one also speaks of stand stands, sidewalk stands, pedestrian stoppers, advertising stands, buck stands, A stands or street riders . The term customer stopper is often preferred because these products usually pursue the same goal: The customer stopper is intended to establish initial contact with new customers, especially walk-in customers, or to inform customers. Customers who are in the vicinity of the point of sale should be “stopped” in the figurative sense and be made aware of products and services.

In the non-commercial sector, they are also used in advertising for political parties and at information stands of associations or citizens' groups.

The installation of customer stoppers on public traffic surfaces , such as sidewalks or pedestrian zones, generally requires approval. For this purpose , a special use permit must be applied for from the local government, usually the public order office . This is often chargeable. In some municipalities, the setting up of customer stoppers is restricted or prohibited with reference to urban design guidelines. Billboards can be an obstacle for people with limited mobility.
