Kunio Hiramatsu
Kunio Hiramatsu ( Japanese. 平 松 邦夫 , Hiramatsu Kunio ; born November 15, 1948 in Amagasaki , Hyōgo Prefecture ) is a non-party Japanese politician and former mayor of Osaka .
Hiramatsu, a former MBS news anchor , was elected mayor on October 18, 2007, against incumbent Jun'ichi Seki . As it was the first major local election since Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda took office, the election received national attention. While Seki was supported by the ruling parties LDP and Kōmeitō , the opposition Democratic Party spoke out for Hiramatsu.
Hiramatsu took office on December 19, 2007. He was the first mayor of Osaka in over 50 years who had not previously been deputy mayor. In 2011, despite the support of both parties, he lost the mayoral election to Tōru Hashimoto from Osaka Ishin no Kai .
