Mainichi Hōsō ( Japanese 毎 日 放送 , English Mainichi Broadcasting System , MBS for short) is a Japanese radio and television broadcaster . It is based in the architecturally interesting MBS building in Osaka .

MBS was one of the first commercial radio stations and began operations in 1951, then under the name Shin Nippon Hōsō ( 新 日本 放送 , New Japan Broadcasting ). In 1956, the Osaka TV Hōsō broadcaster began operating in cooperation with the Asahi Hōsō broadcasting company. The name Mainichi Hōsō was adopted in 1958, before the television broadcast itself finally began in 1959.

MBS on Channel 4 reaches around 22 million viewers in the Kansai area . These include Osaka , Kobe , Kyōto, and Nara . MBS sources its news programming from TBS ' Japan News Network .
