Kunio Mikuriya ( Japanese : 御 厨 邦 雄, Mikuriya Kunio) has been Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) since 2009 .

Life

Mikuriya graduated from Tokyo University with a law degree and a PhD in international relations from Kent University . Initially, Mikuriya worked for the Japanese Ministry of Finance for 25 years , focusing on the areas of customs, trade and financial policy.

Activity in the World Customs Organization

From 2002, Mikuriya was first deputy general secretary before becoming general secretary on January 1, 2009. Mikuriya was last re-elected for a new five-year term on June 30, 2018.
