The Kunsthalle Lund ( Swedish Lunds konsthall ) is an art gallery in the southern Swedish city of Lund .

Origin and construction

The initiative to build an art gallery was preceded by a donation from Bank Gamla Sparbanken (today Sparbanken Öresund) to the city of Lund in 1953. The local council then decided to hold an architectural competition for the planned building, in which six architects - including Klas Anshelm - were invited. In 1954 the decision was made in favor of the Anshelms design, which envisaged a closed brick facade . The construction was completed at Mårtenstorget and opened on September 21, 1957. In 1997 and 2004 the building was renovated without changing its original appearance.

Exhibitions

The opening exhibition in 1957 dealt with Swedish modern art . For the past 50 years exhibitions of both Swedish and international art have been shown including a. with works by Gustav Metzger , Ólafur Elíasson or Poul Gernes .
